Humanity should be our race. Love should be our religion!
How often do you get a question “Why do you care about X or Y, but you do nothing about Z?” I get that a lot… I never found a good answer and I know there probably is none. A lot of people can’t understand you if you’re not fighting for their causes. And I get where this comes from, I was there before, I always thought “How could you not care about animal rights or equality or etc.”
But let me clear something up, there are soooooo many things we have to care about, it’s impossible for one person to fix everything or even just make it better. Believe me, trying to do that even in your own family can be so overwhelming. So this is a letter to all the people who feel the need to blame others for caring and doing something about the causes they believe are important, while doing nothing themselves for the things they care about. For clarification I will say, that people who are doing something for charity - won’t ask why someone is choosing one cause above other. They already had to make this decision for themselves and understand perfectly how hard is to reconcile with the idea that it’s not possible to do everything alone.
It’s really strange to judge someone for trying to do good things. Instead we can learn from that, we can start doing something for a cause important for us and make the world a better place. If everyone stops judging and blaming others and starts doing something, the world can be a better place. Yes, we are only human, we can’t give all our money for charity, but we can do our best, at least trying.
For the people that don’t know me well, I can say I try to be a really calm person who respects everyone around me. (of course I fail many times, but I’m learning from my mistakes). I’m not aggressive with my beliefs and I never intrude them to others. I believe an aggressive approach never works (I understand where it comes from, I just don’t believe in it). Of course I share my thoughts with articles, books etc. in my social media, because in that way if someone cares, they can start doing some research, but if they don’t they can just unfollow and no hard feelings. I often receive questions why I give money for animals, when there are so many people that need help. “Surprisingly” I can care for animals AND people. I do give money for people in need. Like I already said though, unfortunately I am not a billionaire.
I have one important cause I’ve chosen to follow - Equality. Equality between people, equality between genders, races, nationalities, equality between humans and animals. I am fighting for love, peace, respect, freedom, spreading positivity. Even though I really never try to force anyone to follow my beliefs, I always get to these talks with everyone - family, friends, random people… It’s really confusing for me - do others seriously give a f*ck so much about what I eat? Just because I chose not to kill a living being, they are so upset that even though I’m not pushing them to stop eating meat, they feel the need to make me feel like an alien, like I’m bad because I’ve made this decision for myself and my health? I mean, come on - I am not laughing at them for their beliefs, I respect them, I don’t judge them, I don’t make them feel like shit because they don’t follow my ideas.
If I ever do something that makes someone feel personally attacked - please, come and let’s discuss it, but with respect, without offending people. Is that so much to ask for? Don’t get me wrong, I know we make mistakes, we are not robots, communication is hard. I have social anxiety - talking with others about my beliefs is a personal hell. But respect is everything in communication. We have to stop making assumptions and generalisations about others. That’s a good start towards being better people. And what’s more important than that? :)
Peace and love,
